  4. •Extensive 30-year background in private practice, handling a wide variety of civil and criminal cases

  5. •Chair, Disciplinary Hearing Commission of the North Carolina State Bar- presided over disciplinary proceedings involving attorneys

  6. •Chair, Board of Directors of Western NC- the community defender organization that provides legal representation to indigent federal criminal defenders

  7. •Served as a volunteer lawyer with the Council for Children’s Rights, Legal Services for the Elderly, Legal Services for the Southern Piedmont and as a volunteer representing women in domestic violence cases

  8. •Frequent speaker at continuing legal education programs on legal ethics and discipline
